September 2011

We held our Broward Drupal monthly meetup on Wednesday, September 14th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

We had no remote users this month.

Jay Epstein (@jeppy64 http://jay-epstein.com) gave a great presentation about Drupal Gardens. Jay's presentation was an introduction to Acquia's Drupal Gardens and why you should be using it. The following topics were discussed during the presentation:
- Social media capabilities
- Fully hosted solution
- Centralized manager interface (e.g. clone site, export site, transfer ownership, etc.)
- Drupal 7 environment and Views 3
- Can already create e-commerce sites with external support (e.g. http://www.cashie.biz/)
- Simple Views
- Support for rotating banners in a couple of clicks
- Support for image galleries
- Extensive categorized forums for Drupal Gardens support
- Detailed discussion of Theme Builder and how you can quickly theme your site

In addition to the main topic discussed above, we spent the rest of the meetup talking about DrupalCamp South Florida, which will take place in Fort Lauderdale at Nova Southeastern University on Saturday, October 22. We talked about main Drupal beginner track, and the two Barcamp style tracks that offer intermediate/advanced Drupal content. At the end of the meetup, we answered questions from our new members: Steve Hall and Tony Webb.
